Oscar is a long-day onion variety for planting in the summer season.
Oscar is characterized by high productivity with round, firm bulbs that are dark bronze in color. All bulbs are uniform in shape and size, with a complete absence of twin bulbs.
One of Oscar’s main features is its attractive bronze color and the tight adherence of the skin to the bulb, which allows for a long storage period of up to six months under suitable conditions.
Oscar onions are planted either by direct seeding in the field or using specialized planting equipment at a rate of 650–750 grams per donum.
The planting period extends from January until mid-March.
The crop is harvested after the complete drying of the foliage. The bulbs are pulled out and left in the field to dry completely before being packed and stored.
Curing is one of the essential steps for ensuring long storage life.
